Thousands die each year while they wait. Others are not suitable transplant candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.niddk.nih.gov\/health-information\/health-statistics\/kidney-disease\">Half a million people are on dialysis<\/a>, the only transplant alternative for those with kidney failure.
