All three children have an extremely rare genetic disease called<a href=\"https:\/\/rarediseases.info.nih.gov\/diseases\/4984\/schimke-immunoosseous-dysplasia\">\u00a0Schimke immuno-osseous dysplasia<\/a>, or SIOD, that often destroys a person\u2019s ability to fight off infection and leads to kidney failure.
